In 1992 I bought a tie dye romper from a patchouli-smelling street vendor in Mission Beach, which I proceeded to wear to Lollapalooza with Doc Marten boots and a pair of round John Lennon-esque sunglasses from Charlotte Russe. (To complete the cliche, if you must know, I traveled there—Lollapalooza, not Charlotte Russe—in the back of a VW bus with 8 people, including my angsty long-haired wannabe rocker boyfriend who wouldn’t stop eating Funyuns.) It was a banner year for the ‘palooza--Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Cube and Stone Temple Pilots. Sure wish I remembered the music. But, alas, classy college girl that I was, I had consumed my body weight in Zimas on the way and spent most of the festival either face down in the grass or face down in a portable john. Like I said . . . classy.

I do, however, remember that romper, with its bright, irresistibly cheerful concentric circles, like a textile lollipop—a vestige, if you will, of a simpler, more frivolous time. These tie dye plates are reminiscent of that garment. They almost pulse with their bold, swirling hues and, yet, there is a playfulness about them, a sweetness. They are appropriate as both the backdrop for a trio of jello shots at a college bash and the setting for a Spongebob cupcake at a kid’s birthday party. I attended Lollapalooza in 1992, so guess which one I recently used them for? (Though my son would be quick to point out that we served apple pie at his birthday party, because cupcakes are too “mainstream.” No joke. My kid is 9. What do I do with that?) Better yet, throw in some peace sign decor, psychedelic music, and a fondue pot and you have the makings of a groovy 60s soiree. You could even have guests tie dye shirts as favors. Hmmm . . . wonder what happened to my friend with that VW bus

Celebrate the Fleur De Lis. New Orleans deserves a parade of Confetti. I can't decide if it should be pounds and pounds of black and gold confetti or maybe something purple green and gold.

This week they'll get both. Saints win their first Superbowl, Mardi Gras starts February 16 and this will be the biggest post Katrina party that town has seen.

What I wouldn't give to be on Bourbon Street tonight.

Have you ever thought about what you'd do if you were mugged?
Would you cry, fight back or just hand over your wallet?
My favorite story is of the lady who threw confetti in the air.
Apparently she loves confetti as much as I do and has some with her at all times.
This time she had her coat pockets full of gold teeny tiny star shaped confetti.
When the mugger approached her with the order, "Take your hands out of your pockets and put them up", she did exactly that and threw handfuls of these sparkly gold stars high in the air
The mugger doubled over laughing and walked away. I don't know if it happened exactly like this, I wasn't there, but I want to believe it did. I love the image of her tossing those glittering stars up high and throwing that mugger off guard. Maybe, just maybe, she gave him his
first genuine smile in a long time. I hope so. This is part of what I love so much about confetti, it create's smiles. So Smile today, save some of that New Year's Eve Cheer and tomorrow will be another day.

I just talked to a lady in Concord, Mass who's having a Twilight themed New Year's Eve Party

Me, personally, I'll be snoozing at midnight. Since I live in a college town the sounds of midnight will rouse me but that's okay...let 'em have fun. Soon enough they'll have jobs and kids and mortgages.

Come to think of it, they're probably praying for at least the jobs and mortgages.

With the economy of 2009 it was a rough year to be starting out in the world.

I fervently believe we'll wake up January 1, 2010 to a brand new year and a brand new attitude.

It's going to be the year of the turnaround. I refuse to think negatively. As I've been telling a really important guy in my life, "when you have a bad year, the next one is super good to make up for it"

Think Glass half full, expect smiles and give smiles. Practice random acts of kindness and pay it forward. Cliche the heck out of 2010. This is my little burst of New Year's Eve Confetti...Pay It Forward!

So what's new in the world of Confetti?

The next biggest thing is New Year's Eve.

Times Square alone will use more than 2000 pounds of Confetti.

Worldwide, incredible amounts of Confetti will be dropped, tossed, thrown and scattered.

Huge venues stick to bulk confetti mostly because of the prohibitive cost of the

fancier shaped confetti.

For the more chi-chi parties, elegant star shaped confetti in embossed gold and silver will

make a lot of people smile this year.

Last year martini confetti was hot but this year it's star confetti and champagne glasses confetti.

For balloon drops, softer mylar confetti is all the rage. It's bright and shiny and mylar confetti comes in pretty much any metallic color.

Have fun, smile and don't forget a designated driver. 2010 is only 10 days away and the optimist in me expects it to be a banner year in health, wealth and wisdom...for all of you.

How to Plan A Glitz and Glamour Birthday Party For Girls

This party is a great idea for 8-12 year old girls. Get all their best girlfriends together and be ready for a night of glamour and fun! This party is simple to set up, and it is sure to be a hit!

· Go to a local thrift store and pick out a few dresses for guests to change into when they arrive. You can also ask around, many people have old bridesmaid or prom dresses they would be happy to lend to you for the party. Think bright colors, sequins and sparkle!

· Serve simple snacks and drinks at the party. Finger sandwiches or mini pizzas will be a hit with younger kids, and for a little extra glamour, serve sparkling apple cider in champagne flutes!

Sprinkle Girls Night Out High Heel Shoe Confetti, Diva Confetti and Diamond Ring Confetti on the table around the snacks.

· For this party, instead of sending home small gift bags, send home something a little more unique. Go to a local craft store and pick up some inexpensive cardboard frames. The top 10 things to think about when planning your graduation party
1. The Date...will you have your party the day of graduation or wait until summer when more of your friends and family are around
2. The Theme...incorporate the occasion...your graduation, with a fun summer theme. Some of the easiest to do are Luau and Fiesta.

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner and it's time to get your decorations together for this special occasion. Although many people celebrate this Mexican holiday, not everyone knows the real facts behind the celebration. This day commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French militia at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. This victory was significant because it showed the rest of the world that Mexico was becoming a powerful nation and was the first real sign of Mexican patriotism.

Today, the holiday is mostly celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla, but is also celebrated in other parts of Mexico and the United States, especially those cities with large Latino populations. The celebration includes lots of food, beverage, dance and customs unique to Mexico and their culture. Many cities host parades to celebrate and have mariachi bands and folklorico dancing.

Now that you know the real facts behind this holiday, you can start getting your decorations together for the celebration. We have many types of fiesta themed confetti, included confetti with sombreros, cactus, chili peppers, and more. "2009" Graduation is almost here!

As a senior at California State University, Chico I will be one of the many graduating this year. Graduation is a great time for celebrating with family & friends. At Partyconfetti.com, we have all the graduation decorations and supplies you will need for your big day. It can be relatively easy to decorate for your celebration, as long as you know what you're going to need. The first thing you should do to prepare for your graduation party is to send Graduation Announcements out to family & friends to let them know of your accomplishment. Baby Shower Games

I love baby showers. There is something so sweet about those cute little onesies and the eager anticipation of a new life to love.

My water broke...everyone gets a beverage on arrival. In the drink is an ice cube with a plastic baby inside (obviously don't give these to small children) The goal is to get the baby out without "crunching" the ice. The first one to reveal their "baby" yells "my water broke" It's particularly entertaining at co-ed showers
"Guess the Product"...the host fills a baby bag with" baby things". Some suggestions are a diaper pin, breast pads, baby theme confetti, bottle etc. A few should be easy and a few more obscure. Give each guest a piece of a paper and 30 seconds to feel inside the bag without looking. After she feels she writes everything she can think of for 30 more seconds and passes the bag to the next guest and her paper to the host. Everyone should get the same amount of time to both feel the items and to write. When everyone has had a turn read them aloud. You'll get some pretty funny responses

If he were living he would have celebrated his 80th birthday just 5 days before America's first African American President took the oath of office.

What a perfect 80th birthday present this would have been. Were he alive, I would throw 80th Birthday Confetti in his honor.

As President Obama said in his inaugural speech, it was long ago that his African born father might not have been served in a restaurant in the very city where he now stands to serve the United States.

Today is historic for so many reasons, not least of which is the realization of Dr. Martin Luther Kings "I have a Dream" Speech.

Victorias Secret Fashion Show Confetti

Did you see the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Last Night?

It was awesome!

Usher opened the show with his typical cool.

The traditional lingerie was very much absent. The wings at the end were spectacular.

I loved the wings with the spider web backing and the randomly placed flowers.

As a huge Heidi Klum fan, I was thrilled to see how amazing she looked. I loved the wings she wore toward the end of the show. The reminded me of a giant red ribbon.

Okay, the stage...the silver confetti covering the entire stage looked fantastic. I'm proud to say that was from my company, Party Confetti.Com

We sell a lot of bulk confetti and often see it on television and movies. This particular glittery, silver confetti worked so well that I just have to brag about it.

Actually, maybe I should say the confetti that covered the "Runway"...a nod to Project Runway...instead of called it the stage. Project Runway is Heidi Klum's other amazing success. This silver confetti looks like large pieces of glitter. It has a consistency that made it not float away or make the models trip.

It took about 40 pounds of silver confetti to cover the stage. I was probably the only person watching that show who was much more interested in the confetti on the stage than the lingerie on the models.

You should have heard me squeal when Usher kicked some of the confetti into the air during his second song. Yay...

Just so you know, the folks we worked with to create this effect were incredible. We sent samples to New York, Paris and Miami. Within just a few days they'd reached a decision and placed their order. Once it arrived they not only let us know that it was going to work, but kept us updated and even reminded us two days before the show aired. We, of course, Tivoed the show and will probably watch it several times

One of my favorite childhood memories was going to my Aunt's farm for her annual Fall Harvest Party. We would take hayrides on the tractor, bob for apples and of course, drink some warm apple cider. What would be a better time than now to plan your fall harvest party?

Fraternity & Sorority Social Ideas

Hello fellow bloggers! My name is Amanda and I'm one of the sales associates here at Confetti Party Headquarters. I'm also a recent alumnae member of a very large International Sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta at California State University, Chico. Many of you may not know much about sororities or fraternities, but one of the fun events we like to plan are our socials and dances with other Fraternities or just dates of our choice. These are always fun events and a great way to get to know other people on campus.

One of my favorite themes for socials is Italian Wedding, where we elect a mock bride and groom for the night to "get married." We all wear funny costumes and it's always a blast. For this theme, my sorority has used a number of different decorations. One of my favorite styles of confetti to use is the W edding cake confetti. They're adorable three-tiered wedding cakes that have so much detail, you would almost think they're real.

Some other themes my sorority likes to use are Mardi Gras, Casino Royale, and Rock 'n Roll.
We have so many styles to choose from that sometimes its hard to pick just one. My favorite Mardi Gras confetti to use is a mixture that has the words "Mardi Gras," masks and lots of colorful stars. These always add a little something extra to our events and really impress our guests.

We don't use our confetti just to decorate tables at dances either. Sometimes we decide to spruce up our balloons by adding some confetti to them. I like to put the prismatic silver stars into a balloon before I blow it up. It just gives it that extra special shine.

Also, I came up with the great idea to use confetti to decorate our house on an everyday basis. All of our coffee tables and end tables in our sorority house have glass coverings on them and every year we change all of the pictures under them. This year, I decided to spruce them up by adding a little bit of confetti on each table. I added the red rose confetti, because that is Alpha Gamma Delta's flower. I also threw in a few of the black stilletto high heels confetti to add a little girliness to it. They look great and it's another way to give your house a unique feeling. Whatever you decide to do, be creative!!

We're also hoping to get the greek alphabet soon as a part of our inventory, so keep looking for that!

Innovative Advertising Ideas, How to get your Christmas Card Noticed

With the economy making us all think twice about where we spend our money, it behooves us to
think about ways to get our message noticed.

When you mail your Christmas Cards this year think about being different. Companies receive lots of Cards and most are probably stamped with Seasons Greetings ABC Corportation.

Make your card stand out as soon as it's opened. If your company is a bank include dollar sign confetti or confetti that looks like hundred dollar bills. Cash always gets noticed.

For a Company that sells shoes...it doesn't matter whether you're Manolo Blahnki or Payless Shoes...tuck in some shoe confetti.

Another option is to speak more to the card recipient than to your image. This is too much work for a company like Google or IBM. For a smaller business it's a great way to stand out. Send houses confetti to realtors, airplane confetti to the travelers in your customer base and kitten confetti to cat lovers. Witheach of these, tuck in a few pieces of Christmas Confetti. It could be as simple as Merry Christmas or as specific as Angel Confetti.

Music

For a small music store in Florida you could tuck a few flamingo confetti along with a few pieces of Music Confetti into your card. Be creative, music stores in Arizona could add cactus confetti.

Sports

For a Sporting Goods Store in Texas add Texas Confetti and Football Confetti.

Beauty Shops, Hairdressers

Use Blowdryer Confetti, Lipstick Confetti, don't forget Snowflakes and HO HO HO Confetti.

Well lots of schools started back up this week. In our little town in Northern California, the elementary schools started today in 103 degree heat. Yikes

I swear when I was a kid we didn't start until September. Thank goodness for A/C. The man who invented that should have a national holiday. Who did invent air conditioning? Well I decided to find out. His name is Willis Carrier. When was air conditioning invented? Well his patent was approved in 1906.

So, those lucky little kids have nice cool air to learn their ABC's and since this is a blog about confetti and we don't happen to have air conditioning confetti you'll have to check out our ABC confetti instead. Seriously folks, I needed a theme and it's hot and it's the first day of school.

Lest the math teachers and math lovers among you protest, we do have number confetti too.

In fact we have so many numbers that it's impossible to show them all.

And for the teachers pets we have shiny red apple confetti. Sprinkle it on your teachers desk...oops don't say where you got the idea

This shout out is for Casey Larrain of California who just had her confetti collection authenticated as the largest by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Casey has amazing confetti in her collection, many are new, others are discontinued never to be seen again.

Girl Scouts Swaps

I talked to a nice lady yesterday about Girl Scout Swaps
For those of you who don't know, (I didn't), these are little hand made
gifts that girl scouts swap with other troops, troop leaders etc.

They often represent something about the giving Girl Scouts home area

The lady who educated me is Deb Demer
Some of the examples she gave me, representing her home in Texas, are

"Deep in the Heart of Texas"
Materials:
3X3 zip loc bag (size you often see for small jewelry)
dirt, Texas dirt of course
Texas shaped Confetti
Cactus Shaped Confetti
Cowboy Hat Shaped Confetti
a small piece of twine tied like a lasso
Heart Confetti
Instructions for creating the "swap"
Put a small amount of dirt in the bag
add Texas Confetti, Cactus Confetti, Cowboy Hat Confetti, the lasso and 1 Heart Confetti
Close and label "Deep in the Heart of Texas"
Hang a tag on it with your name and troop #

You could adapt this for your home state

For instance if you live in Florida

Today I'm going to talk about wedding confetti.
There's so much more to wedding confetti than hearts.
Just a few years ago we saw maybe a dozen styles of wedding related confetti.
Now, there are over 100

Starting with the Bachelorette Party
You could use big funky lips in the invitations
Sprinkle Stiletto High Heel Shoe Confetti all over the Party Site...if you're bar hopping tuck it in the pockets of the guys you meet...they'll feel included and you know they'll remember the night when they find it in their pocket the next morning. One of my really fun brides traded "kisses"...confetti of course...for shots. She ran out of confetti 2 hours into the party.

For the Shower:

Who Invented Confetti?

Confetti was actually first used in Paris...France that is...
in 1891

Someone was taking down the decorations after a party at a really big theatrical revue
called "le Casino de Paris"

They decided to cut up the decorations and drop them on the guests the next evening.

No one had seen Confetti before and were enthralled to the point of giddiness.

The next day, Newspapers in Paris, enthused about the "Renaissance of French Gayety"

Within 4 Years Confetti was being made by machine and being sold all over the world

How do I know...I collect everything I can about Confetti

The cover of the "Scientific American" Magazine...of which I have a copy...has a picture of the first Confetti machine.
It was such a big deal that it was the cover story. The picture, actually a pen and ink sketch, was done by the famous artist Louis Malteste. He wasn't famous yet but became famous within a few years for his "naughty" posters of Can Can dancers and ladies of the night.

Malteste, nickname Zig, was a friend and contemporary of Toulouse Latrec.

An astonishing 36.5 tons....thats 7300 pounds of confetti

Whoa! Aren't you glad you didn't have to pick that up.
According to the New York Times this is much lower than previous ticker tape parades.
The all time high was on VJ day...5,600 tons of confetti where rained down on the celebrating serviceman and citizens.

There will be plenty of opportunities for confetti this month.

My First Day

This is my first day blogging.

I own a website where I sell Confetti.

Confetti started with my daughter who collected Confetti.

In 1986, when she was 12 years old, I decided to open a Party Store.

All of my "adult" family and friends brainstormed like mad to find

the perfect name that was all about party. My daughter, Laura, threw out the name and the rest is history. In early 1992 she was a freshman at UC San Diego. She kept telling me about this new thing. She called it the information super highway. It took me until 1994 to actually buy a domain name and put up a one page website. It was one page of text just telling about all of the party supplies we carried. Within 12 hours I had my first sale. It was angel confetti.
